The New River is the main rafting river in West Virginia, but there are many others rivers you can go on like the Gauley, though this one is only for experienced rafters. The New River is the best river for newbies. as far as outfitters, there are dozens organizing rafting trips so it's just a question of getting in touch with them. Look up the North American River Runners, Class VI and ACE adventure resort.

It may sound silly but if you can't swim or haven't gone swimming in a while, you may want to do a class III course for whitewater rafting. Also, if you have asthma or heart problems, you may want to reconsider going whitewater rafting because of sharp turns and twists that will shoot up your adrenaline.
