Las Vegas Convention Authority is considering taken over the Riviera hotel-casino, though this has not been approved yet. If approved, the Riviera would close in mid-August of this year 2015, and be demolished to make room for more conventions centers. What you guys think? Anyone ever stayed at the Riviera hotel?

I feel sorry for the employees but to be honest, I don't think the Riviera will be missed. Nothing remains of the original resort, and it's all now an amalgamation (The Riviera has been remodeled countless times).

Well, it's already going ahead...The Riviera will be demolished sometime this year. The work will be completed in two phases, and will take between 5 and 10 years. I know the Riviera was poorly neglected but it's still one of the most iconic hotels on the Strip.

It's a bummer to lose the history, but it makes perfect sense to demolish it. Land is pretty precious, especially in this part of Las Vegas. I wouldn't be surprised to see more of the older and smaller Las Vegas hotels go this route.

This is saddening but I think a new and more beautiful landmark will be created here hence; this is worth it.
