we are a couple over 50 planning to spend 4 nights in nice villa on the beach. Found several in either Negombo or Galle areas, though I have no familiarity with Sri Lanka.

Are these recommended areas? We would like to spend our days at the villa and dine out at night at a nice restaurant. How do we get to villa from Colombo airport? Do we need a car? Etc. etc.

Both Negombo and Galle are great, though Negombo has a very limited beach and toursits crowds are way too big in late August.

I would rent a villa in Galle/Unuwatuna area since it's much better in terms of amenities like restaurants, hotels and villa rentals.

If you choose to stay in Galle, to get to your villa from Colombo airport you will need to get a taxi/minivan, which would take roughly 5 hours and cost around Rs 9,000 ($10).

I wouldn't suggest driving in Sri Lanka, so in case you'd need local entertainment outside the villa, you can always use public transport, tuktuks or taxi.
