For a trip to LA for business or pleasure there are plenty of things to do but when accommodations are reserved at a hotel in the downtown district , what are some of the best places near the financial district within walking distance or a short drive for sightseeing, shopping and dining?

Hiking to the Hollywood Sign is great fun...the best route is via Bronson Canyon. There are also many museums you can visit such as the LACMA, the Huntington Gardens, MOCA and the Norton Simon. Oh by the way, you should also check out the City Hall for an incredible free view of downtown Los Angeles.

The observation deck in the 27th floor of the City Hall is free. You can easily spend days in the museums alone and never even make your way to Hollywood or Disneyland. Venice Beach is nice for people watching though.

What about the Bradbury Building? I've read this is a cool piece of architectural history not to be missed. Is it a good choice to get a feel for LA back in the day?

Downtown LA is rich with historic architecture and cultural attractions, not to mention sports and entertainment complexes. This slide show gives you a preview of some of the cool things to do in Downtown Los Angeles that are worth a visit.
