Here it's some advice on things to do and places to see for first timers to St Martin:

    1. Watching the planes land and take off at Sunset Beach Bar
    2. Walk along Orient Beach
    3. Kayak to Pinel Island
    4. Shop on the Boardwalk in Philipsburg
    5. Take a day trip to St Bart's or Anguilla
    6. Enjoy a dinner in Grand Case

A few things I would suggest for first timers is to rent a car.I know the island isn't big but you'll enjoy your stay better if you can explore it at your leisure. As far as banks and ATM's (ATMs), there are 4 major banks with ATMs's on the island at Princess Juliana International Airport, Sonesta Maho Resort and Pelican Resort Shopping Plazas.

I visited St Martin for a day as a cruise stop over and did a fun island tour that took us to both the French and Dutch sides. Spend time at the beaches: Mullet Bay, Bikini Beach and Waikiki Beach, which is just a little further down than Bikini.
