I am thinking of taking the train from Istanbul to Tehran, it is about a 3 day trip. Before the Iranian border, there is a lake called Van,and the train tracks stop and start on opposite sides of the lake, according to map. On the railway website it just has signs like --- and the crossing seems to take 8 hours but there is no explanation. Does anyone know how the lake is crossed?
They use a train ferry to cross Lake Van so, you will transfer from the train to the ship and back again on the way back to Istanbul.
