I'll be solo in Israel visiting family in May for 10 days and I'd really like to go to see Petra. Is it possible to do it as a day trip, or as an overnight? Does anyone know of any good/reputable tours?

    Thanks very much!

Traveling in Israel is not a problem so you don't have to worry going to Petra by yourself. It's perfectly possible to visit Petra in a day, but you won't have very much time actually in Petra as most of your day will be taken up in travelling and crossing the border twice.

If you still want to go, there are a number of organized tours offering trips to Petra in Israel but I suggest doing it from Eilat, even if you're in Tel Aviv. Trust me, Eilat is much more convenient as there is no transport on the Jordanian side from the northern crossing to Petra.

Btw, if you'll be in Tel aviv, there are several buses that leave from Tel Aviv to Eilat daily, taking about five hours.
