Apparently, Nepal trekking association has stated that as of this fall, foreigners will have to hire at least a guide or a porter while visiting different trekking areas of Nepal. The government of Nepal is also backing this saying they will strictly enforce this new provision to ensure safety of trekkers. Anyone has any thoughts on this?

I do not believe most people who go on these trekking trips are fully informed as to just how dangerous it can be. When heading off to trek in the Himalayas anything can happen. I do not see anything wrong with having guides guides/support porters on your trek.
