    buy a converter for Australia

Im pretty sure Australians use 240 volts and not 120 volts, which is what we use back in the states. Also, the sockets in Australia take two or three flat square prongs, which are completely different to our ones. Either way, do buy a converter before you leave home because most Australian shops only sell converters for Australian appliances to fit American and European appliances.

    need a transformer

just wanted to say that a converter plug wont do it..you'll need to get a suitable transformer bought in Australia, which cost around A$ 80. Whether you need a transformer or not, make sure, that your appliances are configured for the three pin Australian plug. If you cannot get one of these back home you may be wise to wait until you get to Australia.
