Montana has a long history of mining, and it's still an industry that's going strong. Actually, this part of the country is seeing a lot of job growth even in this crazy economic climate. A century ago, people were coming to Montana to look for their fortunes. At the World Museum of Mining, you can step back into this world, visit the Orphan Girl Mine, and see some amazing minerals on display. The museum is located in Butte.

    Bute mining museum

I too recommend passing by the museum when in the area...there's lots of old buildings and mining equipment to be seen, though when I was there many of the buildings were closed off, which was a bummer! Anyways, the church was open and the inside of it was really cool...it was a nice little museum overall!
