If you don't have a week to spare, you a 4 or 5 day West Caribbean cruise is every bit as enjoyable.

There are a number of different West Caribbean cruise itineraries with varying destinations, however most will commence with and would not be complete without a stop at Cozumel, Mexico. Off the western coast of Mexico 's Yucatan Peninsula, this 26 by 11 mile island has a fascinating combination of nature and history to enhance your travel experience.

Clear, warm waters, brightly colored tropical fish and spectacular coral reefs make this island a top spot for diving and snorkeling. Inhabited for 12 islands by the Mayans civilization, Cozumel is home to Tulum a magnificent ancient walled city. Only one third of this island has been developed, despite its world wide popularity. Once you're done enjoying the silence and majesty of the walled ruins, you can make your way back to down for a candlelit Mexican dinner under the glittering stars of the warm Caribbean dusk.

The Cayman Islands, between Cuba and Honduras, is made up of three islands, Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Brac Cayman. Your ship will call George Town on Grand Cayman home when you arrive here. From the Rum cakes at the Tortuga Rum company to the interesting old coins for sale in George Town, the shopping experience here is varies and eclectic.

No West Caribbean cruise to this island would be complete without the recharging experience of strolling casually through the 300 native species that makes up the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Gardens. Natural wetlands, turtle farms, and black rock formations are natural highlights unique to this oasis in the West Caribbean.

On the Eastern coast of Mexico, Belize will pleasantly surprise you as well, as you soon discover once you disembark and begin exploring. The ancient Mayans made their mark here as well, and the ancient stones peering from within the dense tropical foliage make an unforgettable impression on you. Belize, with its Creole flavors and South American history, is a truly unique place to visit.

If your cruise ship goes as far as Roatan, a small island situated off the coast of Honduras, you will truly be at the edge of two worlds. To the south is the vast South American rainforest, to the west is central America, and to the north the azure expanses of the Caribbean. Make a beeline for Tabyana Beach on the west end when you get to Roatan. You can relax at the restaurant on the water with a cold tropical cocktail and watch the paddle -boat renters come and go on their snorkeling adventures.

A Western Caribbean cruise is like visiting four distinct places at once. Leaving here will only make you want to return again as soon as possible. After visiting these locales, you will only yearn to discover more of its treasures.
