I have to admit that I spent more time in the huge spa thermal whirlpool than in the other Holland America Amsterdam pools that are more for swimming and sunbathing. But passengers who are more interested in taking napping to the level of an Olympic sport, a great deal of time onboard can be spent lounging by one of the ship's swimming pools.

In addition to the spa thermal whirlpool, there are three Holland America Amsterdam pools for passengers to enjoy. High above the water on the topmost Sky Deck is a lagoon-like pool open to the elements and with magnificent 360-degree views. This is also the location of the Oasis, an outdoor tropical lounge and activity area designed for the young passengers, aged 13 to 17. This and the Sports Deck located one deck lower (which has a tennis court, basketball court, video arcade, and Loft teen hangout) are excellent places to keep teenagers out of their rooms and busy when they aren't away from the ship on shore excursions.

In the center of the Sports Deck is the sliding dome cover that shelters the main Lido Pool, located another deck lower. This is a very large pool area that can be sheltered from the elements during inclement weather, and it offers dining at the Terrace Grill and snacks at the Lido Bar.

There are also two large whirlpools, the Lido main restaurant, and the Canaletto Italian Restaurant. On one end of the Lido Deck is the Sea View Pool, completely open and a place where adults could lounge outdoors in an area free, for the most part, of children and teenagers. All in all, I found that the Holland America Amsterdam pools epitomized the essence of Alaska luxury cruises.
