Ghent Hotels

The Ghent hotels present a nice variety for travelers who are looking to spend more than just a day in Ghent Belgium. Some of the best hotels in Ghent are understandably found in or near the city’s historic center, but there are some good options outside the city center too. The choices for Ghent accommodations aren’t as plentiful as they might be in some of Belgium’s other cities, such as Brussels, but there are enough hotels here to satisfy demand. Not only do the Ghent lodging options include hotels, but also apartments for those who want kitchen facilities and a bit more space. A bed and breakfast in Ghent is a good way to go as well. Suffice it to say that there Ghent accommodations for all tastes and preferences.

Ideally situated on the Korenlei Canal in the heart of Ghent is the new Marriott Ghent. One of the finest hotels in Ghent, the Marriott is a treat and well worth spending some extra money on. The 150 spacious and well appointed rooms have all the amenities one could need, and the hotel’s staff is keen on delivering great service. Helping to make this Ghent lodging choice even more attractive is its onsite covered parking garage, its multiple restaurant and lounge choices, and its fitness room. Guests who enjoy golf and tennis can arrange trips to nearby sites to play, and highly recommended boat tours can be enjoyed just outside the hotel. As for the stylish rooms and suites, the amenities include a flat-screen cable TV, a desk, a dual-line telephone, high-speed internet access (fee), a coffee/tea maker, a mini-bar, individual climate control, guest bathrobes, and more. Room service is available around the clock, and the luxurious bedding should ensure a wonderful night’s sleep.

When it comes to the best Ghent hotels, Hotel Harmony also deserves a nod. It too is found in the heart of the historic city center overlooking a picturesque canal. The two buildings in which the hotel is housed have a garden in-between them where guests can relax or enjoy breakfast when the weather is nice. The tastefully decorated guest rooms come in a few different choices, some of the more expensive of which are larger and offer stunning canal and city views. Comfortable beds are just one of the amenities that guests here will enjoy. Other amenities include bathrobes, a mini-bar, cable TV, air conditioning and heating, an in-room safe, a telephone, and high-speed internet access (fee). The private bathrooms in each unit are modern and sleek. Covered parking can be found under the hotel for a fee, and since Ghent has nice biking routes, you can rent a bicycle for a day from the hotel to enjoy a fun day of cycling. There isn’t a full-service restaurant at Hotel Harmony, but there is a lounge where you can enjoy drinks and some hors de oeuvres. An impressive continental breakfast is included in the rates here, which are comparable to the Marriot Gent.

Though the city of Ghent doesn’t see as much tourist traffic as say Brugge does, some visitors will still prefer staying at one of the Ghent hotels outside of the city center for a bit more peace and quiet. Plus, the Ghent accommodations found further out usually offer better rates. For an excellent room at a good price outside of the city center, the Holiday Inn Ghent Expo is a worthy candidate. The hotel is situated right next door to the Flanders Expo Exhibition Centre, so it’s an excellent Ghent lodging choice for those in town on business. Leisure travelers will appreciate the fact that there is a tram station near the hotel that offers regular service into the city center. Those renting a car can park it once they get here and use the trams to get into town in just ten minutes. Recent renovations have done well to upgrade this clean and comfortable hotel, which offers 169 guest rooms and 7 suites. All of the guest units have private bathrooms and are relatively spacious. Guest amenities include a data port, free high-speed internet access, a telephone, air conditioning, satellite cable TV, a mini-bar, a coffee/tea maker, an iron, and a hair dryer. The pillow menu can help you get a good night’s rest, as can the double glazed windows. There is a nice atrium restaurant at the Holiday Inn Gent Expo, as well as a pleasant wine bar, and 24-hour room service.

For a good bed and breakfast in Ghent, not to mention a good lodging value, the Cuberdon is an excellent choice. For those on a budget, the two rooms that share a hallway bathroom are a good way to save some money on the side, while the third room offers its own private bathroom with a shower if you want to book that one instead. The Cuberdon is close to the train station, and though it’s a bit outside the city center, you can rent a bike or hail a cab to get there in no time. The hotel’s location allows for free street parking, which is perfect for those with a car. Additionally, there is a low level of traffic noise in the rooms, which makes for excellent sleeping. The hosts of this bed and breakfast in Ghent have jobs, so they are busy folks, but they will do all that they can to ensure a pleasant stay. They are knowledgeable about their city and can recommend tours, restaurants, and things the like. The rooms here are somewhat simple, but they are very clean and comfortable nonetheless. Washbasins and mirrors are provided in the two units without a bathroom, and each room offers cozy bedding, a radio alarm clock, a telephone, and free wireless internet access. Guests can use a kitchen reserved for them here, and the complimentary breakfast will help you get your day started. All in all, you can hardly beat the value and warm service for the price. There are other great B&Bs to choose from when looking into the Ghent lodging options, some of which offer more luxury if that’s what you’re after.
