Czech Airlines

If you’re planning a trip to the Czech Republic, you’ll likely want to start with airline tickets. Some important information you’ll need before booking flights to the Czech Republic includes knowing when to go to get the best fares, and deciding what things to do while you’re in the area to help you plan the best route.

The main airport for visitors entering the Czech Republic, Ruzyne Airport, is located just west of the capital city of Prague, and acts as a hub for the national carrier Czech Airlines. Brno, the second largest city and the capital of the Moravia region to the east of Bohemia, also operates a major airport with Czech Republic flights to London, Moscow, Barcelona, and Prague. Other international airports are in Ostrava (providing Czech Republic flights to Vienna and Prague), Pardubice, and Karlovy Vary (offering Czech Republic flights to Moscow and Uherské Hradiste). It’s also easy to travel within the country with domestic flights to the Czech Republic airports in Prague, Brno, and Ostrava, operated by Czech Airlines.

There are many low-cost airlines going to and from Prague besides Czech Airlines. Ryanair offers some of the cheapest flights around Europe and flies to Brno from London and Girona, and to Prague from Dublin. Other nearby airports are: Nuremberg and Munich in Germany; Vienna, Austria (which offers a shuttle to Brno); Wroclaw, Poland (a popular choice for hikers and skiers traveling to the Giant Mountains); and Bratislava, Slovakia.

If you’re planning to visit several destinations across the country, you may want to book your flight arriving in one destination, and departing from another, for example beginning in Prague and flying into Ruzyne Airport, but ending in Brno and flying home from Brno-Tuřany Airport. This will save you time and money spent backtracking to the first stop on your trip. Compare rates to find the best combination that will allow you to spend more time sightseeing instead of in transit. It is often cheaper to find a low-cost ticket on another airline to an major international airport, and then book direct flights to the Czech Republic from there. The extra step could result in big savings to spend on your vacation.

You can find the best deals on airfare to the Czech Republic during shoulder seasons in spring and fall. The best time to visit is in May or September when the weather is mild, the cities are less crowded, and you’ll find the best deals. April and October are also good times, when ticket prices are still fairly low. Airfare to the Czech Republic is usually marked up considerably during peak season, in the summer months of July and August when the most tourists pour into Prague to see nearby attractions, or around holidays such as Easter and Christmas.

Once you arrive, an airport shuttle can take you to your hotel or into urban areas where you can catch public transportation or pick up car rentals in the Czech Republic. There are plenty of flights to the Czech Republic available, no matter when you might be planning your trip or what your budget is.
