Czech Republic Holidays

Czech Republic holidays are part of the vacation landscape of Europe, and have been for hundreds of years. The magnificent city of Prague was once one of the most powerful Imperial Capitals of the country during the reign of the Habsburgs. Almost all holidays here will include time in this city that was spared much of the destruction other European cities suffered during World War II.
Most holidays to the Czech Republic will include a stay of a few days in the city of Prague. This is the number one attraction in the country, and tours of this magnificent city make Czech holidays very memorable for everyone. From its incredible Prague Castle to the view and shopping available on the graceful Charles Bridge, this city is one of the most beautiful in the world and is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. You have a wide choice of experiences here—from river cruises on the mighty Vltava River to visits to the city’s incredible museums.
The long history of the lovely spa towns include holidays to the Czech Republic by Czar Peter the Great of Russia and the King of England. The wealthy and the intelligentsia flocked to the spas of Karlovy Vary and Frantiskovy Lazne during the Golden Age of the 1800s and early 1900s. For decades during the communist era, Czech holidays were only enjoyed by people from within the communist bloc of Eastern Europe. Since the fall of communism, Czech Republic holidays are enjoyed by tourists from around the world, and are becoming more and more popular with visitors from the United States.
There are also excellent Czech Republic holidays and rewarding family vacations in the scenic countryside. Cycling is very popular in the country, as it is throughout Europe. Numerous other outdoor activities, from walking tours to white water rafting also beckon. Here are some of the most untouched and densest forests on the continent. The country has hundreds of miles of cycling and hiking trails through areas that were closed to the public from the 1920s to 1990. Along the way are picturesque villages, imposing castles, and even wineries.
In fact, many Czech holidays concentrate on the rolling hills dotted with green vineyards and old wineries—not to mention the country’s legendary breweries. Excellent beer is brewed in the Czech Republic, and perhaps the most famous is pilsner from the Pilsner Urquell Brewery located in the city of Plzen.
Skiing holidays to the Czech Republic are also popular. These are not the highest mountains in the continent, but the skiing in three areas of the country is excellent. Sumava National Park is located in the south of the country on the border with Austria and Germany. This area contains the second highest mountains in the country, and there are ski resorts during the winter as well as hiking and cycling tours in the summer. The highest mountains in the country, the Krkonose Mountains, are found in the north on the border with Poland. This is where you will find the very best ski resorts and the largest number of seasonal vacation rentals.
