Suggested Itineraries Copenhagen

If you can only visit one Danish city, it should be Copenhagen. The lazy capital is easily seen in a handful of days, though if you really want to immerse yourself in Danish culture, you could spend weeks here and never tire. Below are some suggested itineraries Copenhagen that may be helpful as you travel to the jewel of Scandinavia.

1-3 Days

Make sure to hit all the major castles – Amalienborg Palace is a must see, as is the Rosenborg Castle. If you’ve had your fill of royalty already, no Copenhagen suggested itineraries could exist without the inclusion of the rollicking Tivoli Gardens (especially during Christmas time), and the Round Tower offers great views from a unique looking tower. A trip along the waterfront at the city’s old port of Nyhavn is a nice way to spend an afternoon, as is shopping along the streets of Stroget. The Little Mermaid statue seems to be on most Copenhagen suggested itineraries, and it is nearby a number of other Danish tourist attractions. Nearby, a stop by the Gefion fountain is yet another reminder of Danish legend. Copenhagen itineraries should also have you seeking out the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Houses for a look at the finest Danish arties before taking a tour of the famous Carlsburg Brewery – perhaps the best non-German brewery in Europe, and a welcome addition to Copenhagen itineraries.

4-6 Days

With a little more time, add the well-preserved fortress of Kastellet to your suggested itineraries Copenhagen. Spend a little more time in the gardens of Amalienhaven before heading to the southern edge of town, where you can find some of the best examples of Danish nightlife, and some of the more exclusive fashion boutiques. For an alternative look at museums, head to the Museum Erotica or the Worker’s Museum – neither are quite what you’d expect. Expert Copenhagen itineraries will include a dinner at the famed Nimb restaurant. Take a closer look at the many cathedrals of the city, including the Marble Church and Church of Our Lady. Also head to the town’s Istegarde neighborhood, which has a unearned reputation as seedy, but houses some of the hippest and most fun bars and cafes in the city.

7+ Days

Though not technically part of Copenhagen, or even the country, the relatively recent bridge connecting the city to Malmo, Sweden is now often found on Copenhagen suggested itineraries. You should also check out the Royal Theater while in town, whether you go to a show or not. Opera and ballet fans, however, almost certainly will want to. Try out the Casino Copenhagen to help offset the costs of your Denmark vacation.  An extended stay will also alleviate the burden of hurrying through the city, and you can spend additional time in Tivoli Gardens, along Nyhavn or even make a return trip to the Carlsburg Brewery.
