Lapland Hotels

When it comes to lodging in Lapland, the choices are quite varied. In fact, the accommodations in Lapland might just be the most varied in all of Finland, meaning that finding something to fit your tastes and preferences should be easy. From bed and breakfasts to lodges in the woods, the choices for lodging in Lapland have just about every visitor covered. There are even some choice campgrounds up here for those who want to stay close to nature while enjoying a Finland vacation. Those seeking luxury Lapland hotels will have some nice 4-star establishments to choose from, and travelers in need of cheap hotels in Lapland can stay at a hostel or guesthouse. Finland hostels and guesthouses can involve sharing a room or bathroom with other travelers, which is the cheapest option, but some also have private rooms with private bathrooms for a bit extra if that better suits your fancy. In addition to hostels and guesthouses, there are some cheap hotels in Lapland that while more expensive, provide more facilities and added comfort. At any rate, the following recommendations for Lapland hotels aim to not only help you find a place to stay, but to also give you an idea just how different the choices can be.
The hotels in Rovaniemi are where many visitors to Lapland choose to stay, not only because Rovaniemi is the region’s only real city, but also because Santa Claus Village is just a few miles outside of town. While staying in Rovaniemi will be ideal for some, others might prefer the village of Saariselka, which is where the Lapland Hotel Riekonlinna is found. You’re just a 25 minute drive from the small airport in Ivalo when choosing the Riekonlinna for your lodging in Lapland, and if it’s outdoor activities that you seek, this is a good place to be. While the Hotel Riekonlinna is one of the more expensive Lapland hotels, it offers its guests some of the best rooms in the region, and if you want more space, you can also rent an apartment-style unit. As for the rooms, there are 196 of them, of which four are mini-suites. These rooms are well-appointed and attractive, with soft colors and plenty of wood accents. Guest room amenities include a private balcony, satellite TV, a telephone, a mini-bar, a kettle with coffee/tea supplies, and a private bathroom with a shower. Some of the rooms here have their own saunas if you want the full experience, and you can also ask for a unit with internet access if you need. Rent an apartment here, and you’ll also enjoy a personal kitchen. There is a free internet corner onsite at the Hotel Riekonlinna for those without computers, though you might find that with so many activities on offer here, it can be hard to find some down time. Other facilities here include a bar, a restaurant, a playroom, a gift shop, and a gym.
Like the village of Saariselka, the village of Levi is one of the premier places to enjoy some Finland skiing, not to mention other outdoor activities. In the heart of Levi is where you will find the Hotelli K5 Levi. One of the best things about the K5 is its array of accommodations choices. There are double rooms here for two to four people, suites, and apartments that can comfortably fit up to fourteen. Some rooms and apartments here offer views of the ski slopes, while others look out onto the hotel’s reindeer yard. There are three restaurant venues onsite at the Hotelli K5 Levi, a wonderful gym, and conference facilities for those on business. Guests will also be happy to know that they can enjoy free access to things like snowshoes, skis, ski boots, and even warm thermal suits. Just remember to bring plenty of warm clothing of your own if you plan to visit during the winter. Don’t forget your camera either, as the Northern Lights in Lapland are spectacular. As for amenities in the guest units here, they include a DVD player, a TV, a kettle, and internet access.
The aforementioned Lapland hotels, while not terribly expensive, will not fit into the budget of every traveler. Thankfully, there are some very good cheap hotels in Lapland to choose from. Among them is the Hotel Ivalo, which offers plenty of bang for your buck. Pretty much every hotel in Finland has a good Finnish sauna for guests to enjoy, and there are three at the Hotel Ivalo. Other facilities include a swimming pool, a fitness center, and a play area for kids. As for the rooms here, of which there are 94, they are both clean and cozy, and while not the most luxurious in the region, they offer TVs, mini-bars, radios, telephones, and hair dryers. For added space and your own personal sauna, you can rent one of the three suites here, and there are also two rooms for those with special needs. In addition to a pub where you can enjoy food and drinks, the Hotel Ivalo also boast a lounge bar, and two quality restaurants. Year round tours and activities can be booked through the friendly hotel staff here, and for a truly unique experience, you might stay a night at the hotel’s offsite wilderness cabin, which can accommodate up to 35 people. When it comes to discount lodging in Lapland, the Hotel Ivalo is hard to beat.
Also worth looking into when searching for cheap hotels in Lapland is the Lapland Sky Hotel Ounasvaara, which is a Rovaniemi favorite with those who want to be close to nature and the area ski slopes. Like most of the top choices for lodging in Lapland, the Lapland Sky Ounasvaara has a friendly staff that can help you arrange a number of fun activities, such as snowmobiling, dog-sledding tours, and reindeer rides, to name a few. Wine-tasting opportunities are available as well, and you can also learn a bit about Finnish food habits by arranging a cooking class. There is a spa and sports center next to the hotel, so you can definitely keep busy when staying at the Lapland Sky. Both rooms and cabins can be rented at the hotel, and though they are pretty basic in decor, they provide plenty for the price. All are spacious, and amenities include a television, a kettle, a mini-bar, and a hair dryer. Forty-seven of the fifty-eight rooms here have a personal sauna, and there are also 23 units that have tubs in the bathroom. As for restaurants in Finland, the Lapland Sky Ounasvaara arguably has one of the best. Besides good food, the restaurant here offers great panoramic views and an all around delightful setting.
