Lapland Skiing

Lapland skiing is the most desirable in all of Finland. This area in the northernmost reaches of Finland receives plenty of annual snow and features the highest peaks in the country, which makes it perfect for skiing. There are 22 Lapland ski resorts in total, with many of them growing at a fast rate as these resorts become increasingly popular with international tourists. One of the reasons that Lapland skiing is so appealing is that you can access many of the small, regional airports from Helsinki with relative ease. The biggest airport in the Lapland region is Rovaniemi, which offers a variety of flights from major cities within Finland and charter flights from other cities in Europe. As you begin to make your plans, you should certainly keep your eyes out for Lapland packages to save money. There are plenty of incentive deals because of all of the resorts competing with each other in the region.

Yllas is the largest of the ski resorts in Finland and features the longest ski runs and the most ski runs in Lapland—the longest run is 1.9 miles long. As such, Lapland skiing does not get a whole lot better than this. The 30 lifts spread out throughout the ski area means that you will not have to wait in long lift lines, even though this is one of the most popular destinations for winter sports in the entire country. There are over 60 runs dispersed throughout some of the most gorgeous alpine terrain in Finland. The top elevation is 2,356 feet with a vertical drop of 1,519 feet. Out of the total ski runs, 60 percent are designated for beginners, 30 percent for intermediates, and 10 percent for experts. This is one of the great Lapland ski resorts for families and groups of friends who wish to have a whole range of services and facilities at their disposal. As with all of the top ski resorts in Finland, you will find accommodations onsite, dining, shopping, and much more. At this particular resort, children even get free lift tickets and rentals. As the largest ski resort in the country there are oftentimes a range of Lapland packages available. These can help you save money on area accommodations or lodging options available.

Levi is another of the most popular Lapland ski resorts. It is conveniently located just a short drive from the Kitilla Airport which offers connections to Helsinki and other major hubs in the country. You can expect to find over 40 slopes here with a nice diversity of ski runs that cater primarily to beginners and intermediates. This is not to say that advanced skiers and boarders will not have fun, but fewer than 10 percent of the runs are for the most advanced riders. As with Yllas, there are plenty of restaurants and accommodations at the resort. Snowboarders will love the terrain park and the kids will have a blast tubing, snowmobiling, and more.

Ruka is one more notable place where people enjoy Lapland skiing. It is situated in the eastern portion of Lapland near the border of Russia. It has a magnificent pedestrian village where you will find everything from restaurants and cafes to shopping boutiques and entertainment venues. There is never a dull moment at any of the ski resorts in Lapland. When the amazing skiing and snowboarding ends, the nightlife begins. Taking advantage of valuable Lapland packages may help you save significant money on your next trip.
