Bourges Hotels

Bourges hotels located in the city center can be a little tricky to find if you are driving because so many of the streets are one-way. However the great advantage of being in the city center is the fact that most of the attractions will be within walking distance.
One of the best Bourges France hotels for a central location is the Best Western Hotel d'Angleterre (pictured). It is housed in a beautifully renovated nineteenth-century building at No 1 Place de 4 Piliers. It is only a block away from the Jacques Coeur Palace, and four blocks from the cathedral. Air-conditioned (important during the summer) rooms are equipped with minibars, coffee and tea making facilities, and high-speed Internet. Continental breakfast is provided, but the hotel does not offer a restaurant. There are a number of dining options near the hotel.
Probably the finest of the hotels in Bourges is the Grand Mercure de Bourbon. It is housed in a historic seventeenth-century former abbey. The address is 18000 Boulevard de la Republique, a major thoroughfare on the northeastern edge of the city center. This location makes it easier to find than city center properties if you are driving, but means you have a slightly longer walk to the historic sites. This property has a fine dining restaurant as well as a casual bistro type café.
You will find that the majority of Bourges France hotels have relatively small rooms compared to the spacious accommodations you normally find in the United States. This is fairly common for hotels throughout Europe, especially those in historic city centers.
If Bourges hotels aren't for you, you can choose from some very nice bed and breakfast inns. One of the most charming is Les Bonnets Rouges, located at No 3 Rue Thaumassiere. If driving, follow the signs for the cathedral. Rue Thaumassiere is only a couple blocks past the cathedral to the right. This guesthouse was built in 1418 as a private mansion surrounding an inner courtyard. It boasts only four unique and romantic rooms. Breakfast is served in the mornings, and there are plenty of restaurants in the area for lunch and dinner.
This city marks the eastern edge of the beautiful Loire Valley, with its magnificent castles and chateaux. A self-driving tour is one of the best methods to see these landscapes that are collectively a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you want Bourges France hotels that are in beautifully restored chateaux, you will find several within a very short distance. About 35 miles to the west is the Grand Hotel du Lion d'Or, in the town of Romorantin-Lanthenay. This is a Relais & Chateaux in a beautiful Renaissance era chateau. Each of the wonderfully renovated rooms is unique, and the property has an excellent gourmet restaurant. The Chateau Lazenay is much more modest (more like a large country house than a small castle), but is only a couple miles south of the Bourges city center. It is located along the shores of small Le Val d'Auran, a peaceful artificial lake surrounded by a park.
