Font Romeu

Font Romeu is a popular border ski resort in the south of France where skiers and snowboarders of all ages and levels and abilities can enjoy some great alpine action and the lovely French Pyrenees. Since Font Romeu is the town with the highest elevation in France, it enjoys an amazing amount of sunny days every year. However, the high altitude ensures a fruitful season for skiing in France. The Font Romeu Ski Resort has also developed its snowmaking capabilities considerably over the past few years. There is a wide array of Font Romeu accommodations, restaurants, and places to see everything from live entertainment to art. The proximity of the resort to the border of Spain means that you will access to a wide range of attractions in Spain as well as things to do in France.
But before even thinking about details like Font Romeu accommodations and where to book dinner reservations (and there are plenty of great places in and around the area), true ski and snowboard enthusiasts will want to get the skinny on what they can expect on the slopes. The top elevation at Font Romeu is 7,218 feet with a bottom elevation of 5,741 feet and a vertical drop of 1,476 feet. There are 23 total lifts that include gondolas and high-speed quads. Boarders will enjoy the challenging and fun terrain park and everyone can take part in the après-ski activities at the lodge and various outposts around the resort.
Whereas many of the ski resorts in the northern parts of the country, including Chamonix, Les Gets, and Alpe d'Huez cater more so to the more intermediate to advanced crowds, this is one of the resorts that is perfect for families with small children as well as novice skiers and boarders. This is not to say that the other resorts do not have plenty of options for beginners, lessons, and the like, or that the Font Romeu Ski Resort does not have a great selection of runs for advanced skiers and boarders. It just so happens that Font Romeu ski holidays may just be the perfect formula for families. There are many Font Romeu accommodations nearby in the form of hotels, chalets, inns, and private rental homes. One of the best ways you can enjoy your trip to the lovely Pyrenees in France is to do so in your own residence. Some would make the argument that the elegant luxury hotels that surround the village are not too shabby either. There are not nearly as many slope-side accommodations at the Font Romeu Ski Resort as there are in the typical and traditional French village resort that you most commonly find in the northern parts of the country.
Font Romeu has also partnered with other resorts in the vicinity, including Err Puigmal, Eyne, Formigueres, and a number of others. This means that experts who wish to test their skills on the more challenging runs in the neighboring resorts will be able to easily do so for the price of one lift ticket. Whether you are planning for a family or a group of friends, you cannot go wrong by booking a vacation to Font Romeu in the picturesque Pyrenees.
