Annecy France

Annecy France is a commune in the Rhone-Alpes region located about 60 miles east of Lyon, making it an excellent side trip to add to your things to do list in Lyon. The old city of Annecy is now a resort destination in the French Alps that draws thousands of tourists each and every year. It is situated in a picturesque setting in the Haute-Savoie region in the eastern part of France. The gorgeous Lake Annecy provides the centerpiece for the wooded wonderland flanked in alpine, snow-capped mountains. Lake Annecy provides a wide variety of activities for lovers of the outdoors including boating of all kinds, kayaking, parasailing, and much more. Any Annecy trip is sure to be both memorable and entertaining.

The old city of Annecy, which was once the capital of the county of Geneva before being incorporated into the House of Savoy in the 1400s, has a long and rich history. There is evidence of this all throughout the town in the historical architecture and buildings that date back hundreds of years. Visitors will feel at once that they are in a special place that has been largely unaffected by the wear of years, while also having at their disposal all of the modern amenities of a pristine resort destination. Lake Annecy and the Alps provide reasons enough for most people to visit this enchanting part of France, but if you still need convincing, perhaps you will be interested in finding out about the luxury accommodations, fine dining, and high-end shopping that are all also a part of the Annecy France experience.

It is not hard to imagine why Lake Annecy has become such a popular destination among international travelers. Besides its close proximity to Geneva (22 miles to the south) and Lyon (60 miles to the west), there are many activities and attractions, not the least of which is the overall luxurious atmosphere and accommodations. You can enjoy skiing in the Alps in the winter and sport boating in the summer months. There are a nice variety of resorts and hotels that offer guests every luxury amenity conceivable. Accommodations such as the Hotel des Alpes, Alexandra Hotel, and Imperial Palace all wonderful examples of the kind of world-class hotels you can expect in this part of the French Alps. They all offer onsite fine dining, health and wellness spas, and 24-hour concierge service, to name just a few of the perks.

There are many attractions of interest that you must see if you visit the old city of Annecy. The Palais de I’Isle or Old Prison dates back to the twelfth century and is one of the most popular (and photographed) attractions in the city. The Annecy Castle is now home to the Art and History Conservatory of Annecy, but was at one time the seat of the Counts of Geneva and the Dukes of Genevois-Nemours. This stunning display of architecture is one of the highlights of any trip to this enviable pocket of the Rhone-Alpes region. The Church of Saint Maurice is another popular attraction, featuring a decidedly Gothic style. It contains some beautiful works of art from the fifteenth and sixteenth century, as do many other places in Annecy France. You will not be disappointed by making a day trip or a full vacation to this charming commune in eastern France.
