Marseille France Beaches

Marseille France beaches are pretty average compared to some others on the French Mediterranean coast, depending upon where they are located. And even though some of the beaches are not suited for swimming and laying out, most of the beaches (within Marseille itself) between La Madrague harbor and La Pointe Rouge harbor are exceptionally clean and perfect for sun bathing and a variety of water sports and activities, including sailing, surfing, and much more. There are also the gorgeous Cassis beaches to the southeast and others that pepper the French Mediterranean coast in Toulon and continuing along the French Riviera. The best beaches near Marseille France combine the natural wonder of this breathtaking part of the country with a variety of modern conveniences and features to make sure that everyone can make the most of their time.

One of the most popular Marseille France beaches for surfers and other water sport enthusiasts is the Plage du Prado. This beach is located in the city’s 8th arrondissement near the city center and a whole host of alluring attractions, restaurants, cafes, and bars. You can cap off your day of fun in the sun and surf with a sumptuous glass of wine and a meal at one of the nearby eateries or cafes, and when you are anywhere near the city center, lots of shopping is never far away. There are also little stands that sell food and beverages. You will also find that this is a safe beach where families will have a good time.
Plages Escale Borely is another of the best beaches near Marseille France. It is located approximately two miles south of the city center of Marseille. This is one of the top spots along this part of the coast for windsurfing and sailing. There are a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars, as well as souvenir shops and gift boutiques along this stretch. The Plages des Planchistes is another of the Marseille France beaches that are popular for water sports. Some of the areas along this beach are designated for windsurfing only. Other areas are fine for children and families. At the Plages de Bonne Veine, you can rent a variety of watercraft and enjoy another of the pretty Marseille France beaches. Just as with the other main beaches in the city, you will access to lots of options for food, beverages, entertainment, and shopping.
There are a good number of gorgeous Cassis beaches, a small town not far from Marseille, including those that pepper the areas of sheltered inlets called Calanques. These beaches are especially pristine because they are difficult to access and unspoiled to a large extent. Some of the best Cassis beaches in the Calanques are d’En-Vau and Port Pin. The main beach in Cassis is Plage de la Grande Mar, a beautiful sandy beach within easy walking distance of the center of town. This is an ideal place for families and friends to enjoy a day of laying out and enjoying swimming and a range of other activities in the Mediterranean sun. Other beautiful Cassis beaches include the Plage du Corton and the Plage l’Arene. The beaches here are certainly some of the best beaches near Marseille France.
