Nantes hotels offer a wide variety to suit just about every taste and budget. France, like most Western European countries, can be quite expensive. Nonetheless, the country does provide a number of extremely inexpensive accommodations to accommodate the many backpackers and young people that travel here.

Cheap accommodation in Nantes France includes a Youth Hostel at No 2 Place de la Manu (look for tram station "Manufacture, Line 1"). It is located quite close to the cathedral, and offers rooms that can accommodate from three to six people. Common areas include a library and television room, a nonsmoking area, and communal kitchen. You will be able to find caravan and tent camping areas not far outside of the city, and the university will often rent out dormitory rooms during school holidays.

One of the attractions of this region that marks the western edge of the Loire Valley are the many magnificent castles and chateaux to explore. Some of these have been restored and are operated as hotels. Some are fairly modest mansions and some are true castles. If Nantes hotels are not for you, you can travel not far outside of the city for this kind of experience. The Castel Marie-Louise is located in the seaside town of La Baule (just north of Saint-Nazaire where ferries are available to Spain). This beautiful Bell Epoque mansion is set on lovely grounds and boasts 29 elegant rooms and suites. There is a gourmet restaurant onsite, and a nearby casino and golf course.
