Best Bed and Breakfasts in Nice

A Nice France bed and breakfast experience gives you the opportunity get to know local people in a unique way. Many also give you a taste of the history of the city and surrounding area, as many are in historic buildings with a long pedigree.

You will be able to find a Nice France B&B right in the center of the city near the major tourist attractions. Most of the best bed and breakfasts in Nice city will actually be small family-run hotels, with 24-hour reception. Some offer serviced (meaning cleaning and linen changing) studio and one-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes. Many of these are located off the Promenade des Anglais and around Old Nice (Vieux Nice), but you can find them anywhere in the city. Le Dortoir is a good example of the former, perfectly located just a block behind the Promenade and within walking distance of everything in the city. It offers three lovely "open" suites, meaning that there are few walls in between rooms. Two of the suites have balconies.

The Hotel Villa Victoria and the Hotel Suisse are perhaps the most luxurious of the Nice France bed and breakfast hotels in the city. The Victoria is located in the neighborhood behind the historic Hotel Negresco and boasts a beautiful garden patio and 38 charming rooms. There is a breakfast lounge and bar. The Hotel Suisse is located just to the west of the Nice Cruise Port and directly under the Colline du Chateau. Almost all of the 35 rooms have balconies with a sea view.

Most of the Nice France bed and breakfast options that provide apartments (usually called "apart hotels") are located on the Quai des Etats-Unis, the far eastern end of the Promenade des Anglais in the shadow of the Colline du Chateau.

If you have car rentals as your transportation, some of the best bed and breakfasts in Nice will be found in the hills outside of the metropolitan area. Virtually every Nice France B&B within the city will serve a cold Continental breakfast (cereals, fruit, juices, bread) buffet style and almost none of them have any green spaces. Additionally, the rooms can be quite small, as is true of most city properties throughout Europe.

Several Nice France B&B inns are located in the communities to the east of Nice. These have the traditional feel of typical French seaside fishing villages, but still provide easy access to the major sites in Nice. The Hotel Welcome in Villefranche sur Mer is set on the picturesque bay and has played host to such French literary greats as Jean Cocteau who said he spent the happiest years of his life here. Charming rooms overlook the harbor, and some have two balconies—one over the water, and another over the village plaza.

When you are able to choose Nice bed and breakfast inns in the countryside, you are more apt to receive a full home-cooked breakfast and to have beautiful grounds that are sometimes quite extensive. The Villa Kilauea is located about five miles north of the city; the drive takes between 15 and 30 minutes depending on the time of day. It is run by a husband and wife team, and is well known for the quality of the homemade jams served at the unusually sumptuous breakfasts served in the pool house by the swimming pool. If you're a young person on a tight budget, you'll find that some of the best bed and breakfasts in Nice are actually hostels. The Hostel Villa Saint Exupery is a bit closer to the city, but set in a wonderful old villa with a surprising number of services and amenities. The kitchen is open so you can cook your own food, and there is a professional staff that prepares breakfast and snacks.
