Mala Beach is widely considered to be one of the best beaches in France’s Cote d’Azur region. You can find it in the commune of Cap d’Ail, which in turn is located on the extreme eastern side of France’s southern coast near the border of Italy. Much of the allure of this pebbly sand beach relates to its relatively unspoiled nature. Surrounding cliffs add to the relatively isolated feel, and the views in general are quite spectacular.
Named after the famous dancer Mala Kchessinska, Plage Mala, as it is known in French, is a very picturesque strip of pebbly sand. It is because of this picturesque appeal that Mala Kchessinka enjoyed taking strolls along its stretch. Often accompanying her was her lover, Tsar Nicholas II. There is definitely a romantic edge to this beach, and it is little wonder that so many Nice and Monaco visitors choose to pay it a visit on the side.
As is true of many beaches in France, Mala Beach is divided into private and public sections. The public areas are free and lack extensive facilities. For those who prefer paying for access to the private areas of Mala Beach, comfortable lounge chairs and beach mattresses are among the available amenities. There are also beach bars and restaurants to take advantage of in the private areas, and beach attendants see to it that visitors are well taken care of.
As you might expect, swimming is among the main activities at Mala Beach. Visitors might also look to arrange a beach picnic or enjoy some beach cocktails at the very least. In the evening, the atmosphere is often that of a beach party, so it can make for an excellent place to visit at any time of day. Just remember to book a beach mattress well in advance if you plan on securing one during the busier summer season. They can go fast.
