Notre Dame Information

Notre Dame information is understandably something that most France visitors have an interest in. After all, few structures in the world are as famous as this Paris icon, and it has long been one of France’s main attractions. Built centuries ago and renovated on more than one occasion due to varying factors, it is a fine example of the French Gothic architectural style and stands proudly along the banks of the also famous river Seine. The waterfront setting is lovely, and a Paris visit simply would not be complete without taking it all in. Paris visitors won’t want to admire just the outside of the Notre Dame Cathedral and its surrounding environs. The interior of the church is also worth exploring.

The address for the Notre Dame Cathedral is 6 Place du Parvis Notre-Dame, 4e, Paris. This puts its on the eastern end of Ile de la Cite, which is a natural island in the middle of the river Seine. For all intents and purposes, Ile de la Cite is situated in the heart of Paris and marks the location where the city was refounded during medieval times. There is actually a bronze plaque in Place du Parvis that marks a point that is known as Kilometre Zero, or Kilometer Zero. From this point, distances from Paris to every other destination in France are calculated, so you might also say that the Notre Dame Cathedral is actually in the heart of the country. Several bridges connect the Ile de la Cite with the right and left banks of the river Seine, and among them is the famed Pont Neuf. While its name actually translates to New Bridge, Pone Neuf is the oldest standing bridge that crosses the river Seine.
