Bonn Germany History

Fortresses, roads, and bridges were the original structures that were constructed in the area, then known as Bonna by the Roman Empire. During the reign of the Romans, there were a few significant executions, martyrs of the Thebaean Legion as punishment for the refusal to worship the emperor as a god. Cassius and Florentius were among these, executed at what is today the Munster basilica, becoming the patron saints of Bonn. Following the Roman administration, Bonn became the center of many disputes and battles, and it has been destroyed several times over, completely in 1689. The historic event that finally put the city on the German map was the success of Ludwig van Beethoven, who was born in Bonn in December 1770. Bonn was the capital of West Germany when the country was divided between the democratic west and communist east.
