Munich Airport

Munich Airport is a rather delightful place to enter the Munich region. In addition to being modern and well-equipped, it is also very efficient. Thanks to this efficiency, it is able to handle more than 400 flights a day and manages to serve at least 65 cities worldwide. Nonstop flights arrive from such cities as London, Paris, and New York, to name just a few, and regardless of where travelers are coming from, they might just choose to linger around the airport for a while before venturing on to their next destinations. There is plenty to enjoy within the confines of Munich Airport. It even has a brewery. Among other things, travelers with a sufficient amount of time on their hands can also consider taking an airport tour. The tours are available daily, and while they are generally given in German, the airport can provide group tours in other common foreign languages by prior arrangement.

As seasoned travelers will already know, most of the world’s major airports aren’t very far from a number of hotels. Some major airports even have at least one hotel on their grounds, which is the case with Munich Airport. In fact, Munich Airport actually has two airports on its grounds. Among them is the Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich (pictured). Located next to the business and recreation area that is the Munich Airport Centre, the Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich offers plenty in the way of comfort and amenities, and should you be concerned about noise from arriving or departing flights, the tasteful guest units come equipped with soundproof windows. The other hotel that is found right at the airport is the Novotel Munich Airport, and much like the Kempinski Hotel, it is a high quality operation. For those who are looking to increase their Munich Airport lodging choices, a number of hotels are situated within the area. These hotels include several internationally-known chain brands and a number of other reliable establishments. Most offer direct shuttle links to the airport.

The Munich Airport address is Nordallee 25, 85356 Munchen-Flughafen, Germany. This puts it approximately 17 miles (27 km) northeast of central Munich in the Erdinger Moos area. S-Bahn trains link Munich Airport to the Hauptbahnhof station in downtown Munich. This is the city’s main railroad station. The trains depart every 20 minutes, and the journey takes about 40 minutes. If you have a Eurailpass, you can ride for free. Other ways to get from Munich Airport to the city include taking an airport bus, hiring a taxi, or driving yourself. Several major rental car companies have a presence at the airport, and they are easy to spot. Often times, the best rates can be obtained by those who reserve their cars in advance. All that is required to rent a car at Munich Airport is a domestic license, though it is recommended that renters also secure an international driver’s permit. This permit can come in handy in the event of an accident or other problems. Upon renting a car in Germany or anywhere else throughout Europe, drivers will be presented with an international insurance certificate that is known as a "green card."

Munich is the capital of the German state of Bavaria. This state is home to nearly half of all the German breweries, so it might not come as a surprise that Munich Airport has its own brewery. Known as Airbrau, this is the only airport brewery on the planet, and it offers more than just beer. Guests can also order food, and there are often specials throughout the week. Both indoor and open-air seating is available at Airbrau, and the brewery is known to play host to a variety of entertaining events. If this sounds tempting, then you’ll definitely want to include an airport visit on your list of things to do in Munich.
