A relaxing visit to one of the beaches in
Hungary is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Hungary is a landlocked country,
so you wont find ocean breakers at the Hungarian beaches. Instead you will
find Hungarian beaches on lakes and rivers, as well as many man-made pool complexes
termed "beaches" which often feature the thermal baths for which Hungary is
so famous. For watersports, head to a lake, where you can enjoy boating, fishing,
waterskiing, and other activities. If a relaxing day of swimming in sunbathing
sounds ideal, then one of the pool complexes is a great bet for a rejuvenating
Hungary is divided by Danube River, which flows right through the heart of Budapest. Budapest beaches open in May or later in the summer and typically remain open through all of summer and into the early fall. The most popular of the Budapest beaches is Palatinus Beach. Palatinus Beach is found in the heart of Budapest on Margaret Island, a quiet island in the Danube River. Palatinus Beach is one of the largest beach complexes in the city, but it manages to retain a calm atmosphere despite being in the middle of the city. You can come here to get away from the noise of the city and relax in the pools and thermal baths. The natural springs on the island feed into some of the pools, creating some of the thermal baths for which Hungary is famous. There are also a variety of types of pools, from wave pools to children's pools. Other Budapest beaches include the Csillaghegy Swimming Pool and Beach, Paskál Beach, and Római Beach.
After a long afternoon of swimming in the sun, it might be time for an altogether different kind of beach experience in Budapest. Head to Buddha Beach Budapest at the end of the day, but don't bother bringing your swimming gear. Buddha Beach Budapest is a nightlife spot along the Danube River. As part of club complex, Buddha Beach Budapest features thatched-roof bars and also outdoor seating areas along the river. With drink in hand, you can gaze right out onto the Danube and see the city lit up at night.
Once you venture out of Budapest you will find more natural Hungarian beaches.
Many of the popular beaches in Hungary are found at the large Lake
Balaton. Lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe and is a favorite
Hungarian holiday destination for both local visitors and international tourists.
There, some of the popular beaches are the Golden Shore beach in Siofok,
the Kisfaludy Beach in Balatonfüred, and the Wesselényi Beach in Balatonalmádi.
At Lake Balaton you can sunbathe to your heart's content, swim, boat, fish,
and more. After a day on the beach, you can head to the nightlife scene at Siofok,
a town on the lake's southern shore. When you want to change things up a bit,
you can tour the scenic countryside around the lake, stopping at Hungarian
wineries or going for an adventurous hike.
All in all, because the country is landlocked, it is best known for its thermal baths rather than the beaches in Hungary, but there are still a number of options for true beach lovers, particularly Lake Balaton, where you can engage in a full array of water sports and bask in the sun on sandy beaches.
