Assisi Hotels

Assisi Italy is otherwise known as the city of St Francis, for whom a beautiful basilica was built to honor. This basilica attracts thousand of pilgrims, history enthusiasts, religious minded travelers, and curious visitors seeking out Assisi lodging as a base from which to explore the city further. Assisi's geographical location adds another appealing element to the town. Assisi is flanked by Mount Sabasio and is also a rich oasis of oak and holm trees.

One of the most interesting, and lovely hotels in Assisi is the Pallotta Hotel. The Pallotta Hotel is located inside one of the medieval buildings in the heart of Assisi's historic center, making it an excellent choice in location. The area is ideal for taking walks throughout the quiet, ancient streets and avenues and for shopping at local vendors and stores. These accommodations in Assisi are within easy walking distance to St Francis Basilica, the Cathedral of San Rufino, and the Santa Maria Maggiore. The Pallotta is one of the many Assisi hotels that has a restaurant onsite for convenient dining. It also provides guests with lounge area built into the building's tower. From there guests enjoy great views of Mount Subasio and the Umbrian Valley. Simple and nice rooms are equipped with free wireless internet.

The Minerva Hotel is another good choice for anyone exploring Assisi lodging options. This hotel is also in the center of town and only fifty meters away from St Francis Basilica and other historical monuments and sites. The Minerva is one of the medium-sized hotels in Assisi, with twenty-seven rooms, both double and triple, an onsite restaurant and bar. The restaurant is known for its excellent wine selection, something that, surprisingly, some Assisi hotels lack. Some rooms have great valley views. Inside, vaulted, arched ceilings and doorways have plenty of character. The hotel offers a tours desk, rental transportation, room service and a safety deposit box. Note that during special events and holidays, the center can get a little noisy.

Anyone wanting to stay outside the city center should take a look at some of the Assisi hotels located in the nearby hills. Affording plenty of privacy and many classic Italy images, most of these hotels in Assisi are still only less than half a mile from the city center. La Terrazzo (pictured above) offers three-star Assisi lodging in the peaceful hills amid olive groves. Here, the views are fantastic and the Italian gardens are gorgeous. Nearby attractions are an easy walk for anyone with the slightest ambition. There aren't many Assisi hotels that offer such a great combination of amenities. La Terrazzo is equipped with a wellness center, complete with a Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, and sauna that combine perfectly with a nice array of massages and specialty treatments. There is also a restaurant, a swimming pool, and an outdoor playground, offering more things to do for families.

The oldest part of Assisi is protected by a long, stone wall. Once inside the wall, the vast number of historical monuments, churches, and other religious relics speak of the city's long, fascinating history dating back to 1,000 BC. Assisi is a necessary stop for anyone interested in Italian history. The pleasant variety of historic hotels in Assisi is an added bonus, and one that adds more depth to any Italy tours.
