Lake Maggiore Hotels

Staying in one of the Lake Maggiore hotels is one of the best relaxing getaways you can find in Italy. With mild weather year-round and a sunny Mediterranean climate, this destination is alluring to all sorts of travelers. The beautiful pre-alpine lake is dotted with villas and hotels, many of them located in one of the towns around the shoreline of the lake.
If you're aiming for luxury and decadence during your trip to the lake district, one of the best hotels near Lake Maggiore is the five-star Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees (pictured), a luxury spa hotel located right on the waterfront near the town of Stresa. It is housed in an amazing turreted palatial building and decorated in a truly opulent Baroque style. The rooms are luxurious, with gilded and embellished furniture and some beautiful textiles, while being outfitted with modern amenities such as TVs, wireless internet, and more. The Grand Hotel has extensive gardens, and has some of the best views of the Lake Maggiore hotels, with all rooms looking out either on the lake or the gardens. A delicious breakfast buffet is served in the mornings with beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
There are several other 4-star or 5-star hotels located near the lake for those who can afford to splurge. There are many options in the tourist-friendly town of Stresa, such as Hotel La Palma, which is conveniently located close to both downtown Stresa as well as the lakefront, and the ornate Regina Palace Hotel, also right on the waterfront.
One of the best hotels near Lake Maggiore for people who wish to stay on a budget but still experience the charm and hospitality of a nice hotel, is the Hotel Tre Re located in Sesto Calende, a small town at the southern tip of Lake Maggiore. A charming and quaint little town, it is a good base from which to explore the lake, and has a nice waterfront walk where you can go for a stroll or a run. The Hotel Tre Re is one of the most intimate Lake Maggiore hotels, being a family-run hotel that has been in business for more than 80 years. The hotel itself is situated right on the Ticino River as it flows out of the lake, with balconies that overlook this lovely river view. You are also right on the south bank of the lake along with access to the downtown area. A simple but comfortable hotel, you will feel well taken care of by the gracious proprietors. Rooms are well-appointed with comfortable bedding, glass doors opening out onto the patio, wireless internet, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffee. Guests seem to enjoy the restaurant in particular, with good reviews of the food.
By contrast, the Hotel Camin Colmegna in Luino has more of a resort feel. If you enjoy lounging on the sand, this may be one of the best Lake Maggiore hotels for you, as the hotel owns a small private beach. Located on the quiet eastern side of the lake, you shouldn't expect nightclubs and bars around, but it is beautiful, secluded, and sunny. The hotel has spectacular views of the lake and the Alps, with an outdoor hot tub and a family-friendly lawn area that opens right out onto the beach. There are some beautiful gardens you can take a stroll in, and having dinner on the terrace overlooking the lake is a perfect way to end your day. Rooms are simple but clean and comfortable with TVs, wireless internet, hairdryers, and all the other essentials. The location right on the lake is the main draw, for which this 3-star hotel is one of the best hotels near Lake Maggiore. Nearby in the village of Luino you can find a few bars and restaurants, although you may have to wait a while for the train to get there. Having a rental car is recommended.
