Portofino Beaches

Portofino beaches are located just a few miles outside the harbor and town center of this chic resort destination on the Italian Riviera. Some of the best beaches near Portofino Italy include the ever-popular Paraggi Beach (just a couple miles north up the coast), as well as the beaches of Santa Margherita Ligure and Camogli. All three of these destinations are accessible by foot, boat, train, or bus. You can also opt to drive to the Portofino Italy beach of your choice if you are planning to have a rental car during your stay in Italy. You can also venture a bit farther via ferry to places like Sestri Levante where you will find more sandy beaches where you can relax and enjoy a taste of the good life.

There are no beaches in Portofino itself. The town is dominated by the port and harbor, along which the majority of the shopping boutiques, fine dining establishments, and cafes are located. The most popular and convenient option for people without their own transport is nearby Paraggi Beach. All of the top hotels in Portofino provide complimentary transport to Paraggi Beach, where you can enjoy a world of water related activities, from jet skiing and boating to diving and swimming. Whereas the coastline of Portofino is marked by craggy outcroppings and rocky shorelines, Paraggi provides a pleasant retreat and great conditions for sunbathing and relaxing. People also enjoy trips to Paraggi Beach for the occasional celebrity sighting. Paraggi Beach has lifeguards, public facilities, and places to have a drink and bite to eat.

If you travel up the coast by ferry or drive through the interior, you can make it to the lovely resort town of Camogli with ease. It is only about four miles from Portofino and is a smaller and more serene destination that nonetheless offers luxury hotels, fine dining, and excellent wine bars and cafes. Another draw to Camogli is that it offers one of the best beaches near Portofino Italy, the main destination for many travelers to this part of the Mediterranean Sea. As mentioned earlier, the ease of access to places like Camogli and Santa Margherita Ligure make Portofino an even more appealing proposition. You can relax on the beach (a mixture of sand and pebbles) of Camogli and enjoy food and beverages, public facilities, and access to gear and equipment rental, towels and chairs, and much more. Many of the hotels in Camogli provide access to a private stretch of this beautiful beach.

Another option for people looking for some of the best beaches near Portofino Italy is Santa Margherita Ligure. Once again, you do not have to travel far to reach the sand coastline of this port town. It is not as big or busy as Portofino, but offers more than Camogli in the way of resort-style amenities. You will enjoy a vast selection of restaurants, beach bars, and cafes, as well as the charm of the harbor. You can rent gear for scuba diving and snorkeling, kick back on a lounge chair under a shady umbrella, or hit the hiking trails off of the beach to explore the coastline. Santa Margherita Ligure is a wonderful place to take the entire family for a day of relaxation and fun in the sun.
