Portofino Holidays

Portofino holidays have been popular for over a half-century, ever since Hollywood elite like Frank Sinatra and Brigitte Bardot made it the haunt of the stars in the 1950s. Portofino Italy luxury holidays offer just about everything you could want, from world-class dining and shopping to elegant guest accommodations and excellent diving. The harbor at Portofino plays host to some of the most impressive yachts in the Mediterranean. You will see more boats than cars as you meander through the charming streets of historic Portofino. Those interested in Portofino tourism holidays will also find that there are a good number of cultural attractions like the Castello Brown, Statue of Christ of the Abyss in the Bay of San Fruttuoso, and the Piazzetta (or main town square).
Even though most people enjoy Portofino as a place to relax and take in the good life on the Italian Riviera, there is no shortage of activities to take part in. Before Portofino became a tourist resort destination, it was a fishing village. Guests still enjoy this pastime in Portofino and can charter or take out their own boats, as long as it’s not in the Marine Protected Area where there are some twenty dive sites filled with red coral and all manner of marine vegetation and fish. Diving and snorkeling, jet skiing, and swimming are just a few more of the activities that people enjoy on Portofino holidays.
If you have your heart set on a luxurious getaway in Portofino, you should know that there are a wide variety of elegant hotels that will make your dreams come true. Most of the guest accommodations employ elegant, Italian design and Mediterranean colors. Many of the spacious rooms and suites at luxury hotels like the Hotel Splendido and the Excelsior Palace provide sprawling, furnished terraces where you can enjoy magnificent vistas of the harbor, sea, and town.
There are some beautiful beaches near Portofino, but no beach directly in the town. Paraggi Beach is just a mile and a half up the coast and it is easy to catch a ferry to Camogli, Santa Margherita Ligure, or Genoa where you will find other beaches. One of the best things about Portofino Italy luxury holidays is that there are so many other alluring places within such close range.
There are a few things that you should keep in mind as you make plans for Portofino holidays. The first thing is that the town gets crowded during the summer months, and is generally buzzing between the months of April and September. Hotels and rentals are limited and fill up quickly, so it is best to make your reservations as far in advance as you possibly can. Also, Portofino is not the most convenient place to keep a car, so if you don’t mind using ferries and trains, it may be a good idea not to rent a car, and rely on other modes of transportation that are just as easy and less of a hassle.
