If, however, you plan to spend your entire vacation in Portofino, it is highly advisable that you take either a train or ferry, as this way you will not be strapped with a vehicle that you essentially will not need to get around the small village. For people who do not want to explore the city by foot, there are Portofino taxis available as well.

Taking a ferry or a train to Portofino is a cost effective and convenient option. You can enjoy a ferry ride from Camogli, Rapallo, Genoa, and many more destinations along the Italian Riviera. Another advantage to taking a ferry is that you can sit back and enjoy the magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea and the western Italian coast. The picturesque nature of this port is enhanced by the beauty of the harbor at Portofino, one that many consider to be among the most beautiful ports on the Mediterranean coast. A train to Portofino also offers a lot in the way of beautiful views, as you travel toward the peninsula in the Tigullio Gulf. Trains also provide an affordable alternative to paying for a rental car for the duration of your vacation. You also will not have to worry about paying for long-term parking. There are two train stations within close proximity of Portofino- Camogli and Santa Margherita Ligure. Trains run on a regular schedule from other cities, including Genoa and Milan. There is also a bus that operates from the Santa Margherita Ligure train station, offering regular service to Portofino.
