After all, Sorrento vacations generally revolve around relaxing and sightseeing, and there is really never a bad time to take in the amazing coastal views. Sure, winter can get cold and the summers are quite hot, but there are always ways to beat the cold or heat.

Things to do in Sorrento in June, July, and August

Summer is the peak travel season in Sorrento, Italy, and there is good reason for this. The rainfall totals are low, the ferry service is in full operation, and the area beaches provide great places to play and relax. The Sorrento beaches themselves aren't known for their quality. As such, beach hunters often head to places such as Vico Equense to get their fill of sun and sand. The seaside Sorrento hotels and resorts are in especially high demand in the summer, so booking well in advance is recommended.

Since it gets pretty hot in Sorrento during the summer season, some consider fall to be a better time to visit. There's also the fact that the tourist crowds are smaller in the fall. Early fall in Sorrento is still a great time to go to the beach, and as things begin to cool down, walking tours through town can prove to be more enjoyable. Traipsing around Sorrento's historic heart is certainly more of a burden during the hot summer months, at least during the midday hours. Regardless of the time of year, walking tours in Sorrento should include a stop at the Sorrento Cathedral, as well as the Basilica di Sant'Antonino.

Winter is generally considered to be the worst time to go to Sorrento, Italy, but that doesn't mean that it's a bad time to visit. Sorrento attractions such as the Cathedral and the Museo Correale are open year round, and the town's stunning setting is a joy to take in regardless of the season. The Museo Correale was formerly a home that was owned by an aristocratic family. Decorative art that dates as far back as the 1500s is the main focus. Another option for things to do in Sorrento during the winter season is taking a cooking class. The renowned Sorrento Cooking School is the place to go for culinary lessons. Visitors can also do some limoncello tasting, which might prove especially tempting on colder and rainier days when sightseeing doesn't seem so appetizing. As a side note, some Sorrento attractions do close or have limited winter hours.

Things to do in Sorrento in March, April, and May

As is true of fall, spring is widely considered to be one of the best times to visit Sorrento Italy. The tourist numbers are lower than in the summer, and the mild temps are inviting, especially if you are interested in doing some heavy hiking on the area trails. Boating is also an option for things to do in Sorrento during the spring season, as it is during the fall and summer. The main harbors of Marina Grande and Marina Piccola are the places to go if you want to rent boats or arrange guided boating tours. Speaking of tours, no visit to Sorrento would arguably be complete without a side trip to Pompeii. Destroyed by the 79 AD eruption of Mt Vesuvius, this former Roman city has been excavated to great degree and is an amazing place to explore at any time of year. Late spring offers good beach weather, so anyone visiting during this period is encouraged to pack their bathing suit and sandals.
