Maribor Hotels

As it is the second largest city in Slovenia, finding accommodation in Maribor is not difficult. There are several options available for the traveler in search of a Maribor Slovenia hotel, including five-star hotels, tourist farms, and youth hostels. The city's unique sights make it a good stop for anyone interested in the country's history, and they are sure to find lodging to suit both their taste and budget.

Located at the foot of the Pohorje Mountains and just a few minutes from the town center, the Habakuk Hotel (pictured) is arguably the best hotel in Maribor, and is the only five-star option for accommodation in Maribor. Although it is beginning to show its age, the Habakuk is in an ideal location if you are planning to go skiing at the Pohorje Ski Resort, with the hotel just steps away from the ski lifts and slopes. As the hotel is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, staying at the Habakuk allows travelers to get away into the natural landscape, while having convenient access to town. The thermal pools, both inside and outside, allow guests to bathe and swim in all seasons. An extensive spa allows guests to soothe away tired muscles after a day of skiing, and special wellness spa weekend packages are available for booking. The Habakuk is one of the most highly rated Maribor hotels, and it offers a relaxing stay for guests who want excellent service and a bit of pampering on the side.

For good value mid-range accommodation in Maribor right near the center of town, you can't do better than Hotel Orel. Located right in the midst of the central shopping and cultural districts of town, it is within walking distance to most of the local attractions and sights and is one of the most popular choices among Maribor hotels. A recent renovation means that rooms are comfortably outfitted with modern amenities, and a hot breakfast buffet energizes guests for a day of sightseeing. Good package stays are available that offer tremendous value for the money.

Located right next to Hotel Orel, and sharing the same entrance, is a youth hostel, YH Uni. Used as a residence for students during the academic year, it is open to guests as a hostel during the summer months of June to September. Expect no-frills, dorm-style basic rooms with en suite bathrooms but no breakfast. For the budget traveler, staying at the YH Uni is a good alternative to a more expensive Maribor Slovenia hotel. It also offers easy access to local sights and popular activities such as hiking.

Another excellent alternative to the central Maribor hotels is staying at a tourist farm located just outside of the city. While close enough to the city that guests can return easily to town, staying at a tourist farm not only allows tourists to experience true Slovenian hospitality, homemade local food, and beautiful surroundings, but also allows travelers to participate in farm life. Tourist Farm Joannes, for example, is just ten minutes by car from Maribor, but it feels a world away. Visitors stay in an inn-style residence, while the hosts prepare wine tastings and delicious food. Guests can also explore the farm and see its horses and chickens. For travelers who are interested in local food and wine, staying at a tourist farm is an ideal way to see the country, and can be even more satisfying than staying in a central Maribor Slovenia hotel.
