The Magic Fountain is a favorite attraction in Barcelona. From October through April, the performances take place on Friday and Saturday at 7 pm, 7:30 pm, 8 pm, and 8:30 pm. Between May and September, there are more performances. Catch the Magic Fountain show during these summer months on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday every half hour from 9 pm until 11 pm. There are never shows on Monday through Wednesday, at any point of the year, so plan your visit accordingly.
One of the attractive qualities about the Magic Fountain is that it is free entertainment. The Montjuic Fountain is easily accessible via public transportation. By taking the Metro to Placa Espanya, you will be only a short walk from the famous fountain in Barcelona.
Many visitors don’t know how far back the story of the Magic Fountain goes. The first performance was actually in 1929 during the Great Universal Exhibition. It took the work of more than 3,000 people to make the dream of designer Carles Buigas come true. The magic show of light, sound, and water has now been delighting audiences for several decades. Another popular attraction in Barcelona was also created in 1929, the architectural museum Poble Espanyol, also located in Montjuic.
