Cordoba Vacations

Cordoba vacations and holidays can be filled with many wonderful experiences. The city alone with its UNESCO World Heritage historic core is a joy to explore, and there is no shortage of tantalizing side trip destinations to consider when looking to add extra depth to the trip.

Among the attractions that help to make Cordoba such a fine vacation destination are some impressive Roman ruins and a Moorish mosque that basically has a multiple-style, Spanish cathedral growing out of it. This mosque-turned-cathedral is known as the Mezquita-Catedral, and it is one of the most popular tourist sites in all of Spain. As for the Roman ruins of Cordoba, they include a beautiful, sixteen-arch bridge that spans the Guadalquivir River and remnants of an old temple.

One of the best things to do on a Cordoba visit is a walking tour through its Juderia district. This district, which forms the bulk of the historic core, dates back to Moorish times and is known for its lovely maze of streets. These streets in general are quite narrow and include the especially beautiful alleyway that is known as the Calleja de las Flores.

Cordoba holidays often involve side trips to such regional towns and Priego de Cordoba and Zuheros. Priego de Cordoba is sort of like a smaller Cordoba and has plenty of charm itself, while Zuheros is known for being a fine destination for those who love the great outdoors. The park that surrounds the town offers up great hiking and biking trails, and the scenery is delightful. Other possible side trip destinations can include larger cities in the southern Andalucia region, such as Granada and Malaga, with Cordoba rental cars coming in especially handy for those who wish to explore the region as they please.

It should be mentioned that some of the best beaches in Spain can be found in and around Malaga, and the drive out from Cordoba only takes about an hour or so. Trains travel between the two cities, as do buses, and there are also transportation links to any other number of destinations for those who wish to leave the driving up to someone else during their Cordoba holidays. In the winter and spring, for example, skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts can take a train or bus to Granada and then hop on a bus from there to get to the excellent Sierra Nevada Ski Resort. Driving to the resort can help cut down on travel time if that is a priority.

For those who are thinking of taking their Cordoba vacations in the summer, Lake Iznajar, which is about 50 miles away, can be a great place to cool off. Most of the villas that are found in the Cordoba Province are situated on or near the shores of this largest lake in Andalucia, and there is a public beach for all to enjoy.

Any number of activities can be added to the agenda when it comes to Cordoba holidays. The shopping opportunities are certainly enticing, and thanks to the Cordoba luxury hotels, getting pampered at a spa can be a possibility. The city and the area in general are also home to bathhouses where visitors can indulge in a rejuvenating and relaxing soak. Golfing, horseback riding, and fishing are just some of the other options for things to do on Cordoba vacations, and the healthy nightlife caters to those who like to keep the fun going after dark.

Cordoba vacation packages are out there, and they can help prospective visitors arrange an unforgettable trip of their own. These packages include things such as hotel rooms and transportation, and there's no telling what other things travelers might be able to add to the picture. Some Cordoba holiday packages include stops in other Spanish cities like Madrid and Seville, for example.
