Icaria Beach

Icaria Beach is a popular destination in southern Spain, located right on the gorgeous banks of the Mediterranean Sea. Known as Playa de Icaria to the local population, this beach is recognized as being more serene and less crowded than its next-door neighbor, Barceloneta Beach. For this reason, Icaria Beach tends to attract families with small children who appreciate the ability to keep a closer watch on the little ones while they relax in the sun and surf of the sea.

The Playa de Icaria is located near the Port Olimpic Marina, and is not more than a ten-minute walk from the city center of Barcelona. It is also not far from other popular beach destinations such as Bogatell Beach, Marbella Beach, Nova Mar Bella Beach, and Saint Sebastia Beach. Tourists to this region of Spain appreciate the closeness of proximity from the beaches along the Mediterranean to other Barcelona attractions, including downtown, and the village where the 1992 Olympics were held, now home to an assortment of shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, and other such establishments.

Since the beaches along this stretch of the Mediterranean are so popular, and so frequently visited, it requires a daily effort by local authorities to ensure that the quality of the sand and the water is satisfactory. Tests are run daily to comply with health standards, and Icaria Beach actually is considered one of the cleanest beaches along this stretch. There are many restaurants, beach bars, and other eateries where tourists can enjoy seafood and local Spanish fare, while enjoying a relaxing time in the golden sun and looking over the white sand of this gorgeous beach in Barcelona.

Tourists are able to enjoy a wide range of water sports and recreational activities as well at Icaria Beach. Some popular activities include wind surfing, jet skiing, hang gliding, boating, and rollerblading. Because of the long promenade that extends out along the beach, Icaria Beach, along with others on the coast, is popular for joggers, skaters, and people watchers, who come to take in the sun and get some exercise all at once.
