Sweden Transportation

Your upcoming trip to Sweden will likely involve some transportation in Sweden. The country of Sweden, like many other countries throughout Europe, offers excellent public transportation. Although it is entirely possible to rent a car for your transportation in Sweden, it is also possible to get around the country without a car.

Transportation in Sweden by car is an organized endeavor. Budget car rental in Sweden is easy to locate in the larger cities such as Stockholm, Malmo and Gothenburg. If you plan to take advantage of budget car rental in Sweden, you will be able to drive as long as you have a certified driver’s license from countries in North America, New Zealand or Australia. Budget car rental in Sweden is available through all of the major rental car firms based in the United States.

Sweden transportation is also available through the Swedish rail network that runs through the country. Swedish rail moves between the major cities of Malmo, Helsingborg, Gothenburg and Stockholm every hour throughout the day, Mondays through Fridays. Sweden rail is meant to be affordable, and is a great way to get around the country. Families often choose this form of Sweden transportation since children under the age of 12 always travel free, and children under the age of 18 are eligible for student and other kinds of discounts.

Although Swedish rail will take travelers between the major cities, if you need to get around in the cities themselves without a car you will need to use the bus system. Buses will take travelers from the larger and more well-known cities to the smaller, lesser known cities. Buses in Sweden are far more comfortable than the metro-style buses found in the United States. Buses in Sweden will generally have toilets, adjustable seats, telephones and even reading lights; comfort somewhat akin to that of an airplane. Prices for bus trips will simply depend on how far your trip takes you, with costs increasing as the distance increases.

Yet another way to get around within Sweden is via the car ferry. The country of Sweden has many lakes, rivers and inlets, and there are some ferries connecting the major cities that service travelers with cars quite well. You can take a ferry between countries, or even take a ferry from the mainland of Sweden to an island in the archipelago of Stockholm.

Note that whether you plan to rent a car, take the train or book ferry or bus passage, it is a good idea to reserve your place in advance whenever possible. This will be the best way to get the most competitive rates on ticket prices, as well as ensure that you won’t find yourself without a seat, ticket or car. Most companies take online reservations.
