Arosa

Arosa Switzerland sits at an elevation of 5,904 feet and can be found in the easternmost canton of Graubunden. Both a summer and winter resort, it offers a down-to-earth environment that caters well to families who aren't interested in the more chic resorts. Families will especially appreciate the excellent child care services that are available in this alpine village, not to mention the AlpenClub Mickey Mouse Family Hotels organization. This organization is comprised of Arosa Switzerland hotels that pay special attention to families and their lodging needs. As for the Arosa skiing, it caters to everyone with its variety and its overall quality.

People from all around the world drop into Arosa Switzerland during both the winter and summer seasons. The winter season is the peak season, and this has a lot to do with the fantastic runs and the renowned ski school. Approximately 100 instructors are on hand at Arosa, and they offer a variety of lesson options for skiers and snowboarders alike. About 45 miles of groomed trails await those who choose to indulge in some Arosa skiing, as do nearly 20 miles of free ride terrain. Add in the half pipe, and it becomes clear that this is an excellent place to play whether you enjoy tame runs or going big. There are a few different areas that can be accessed, and they include the runs on both sides of the valley. These runs in the Weisshorn and Hornli Mountains are especially responsible for drawing in advanced-level skiers and snowboarders.

Cable cars, chairlifts, and buses are all used to move skiers and snowboarders around the Arosa skiing area, and should you be interested, you can buy a special pass that also allows for access to some of the regional ski resorts, such as Klosters and Davos. If you aren't up for skiing or snowboarding or you just want to get off the slopes for a while, winter walking trails are in good supply. You can also do some tobogganing or snowshoeing. Some of the walking trails lead to comfortable huts where walkers can get something to eat or drink. These same huts are also available to skiers and snowboarders, so walkers can consider meeting up with friends who are spending time on the slopes.

There are many reasons why an Arosa skiing or snowboarding vacation can be rewarding. The views from the top of Weisshorn Mountain alone are worth a visit. From the summit of this 8,564-foot peak, you can see hundreds of other Swiss peaks, not to mention Austrian peaks, and more in a couple other nearby countries. If you can't make it to Arosa in the winter, summer is also an excellent time to visit. Teeing it up for a round of golf at the Arosa Golf Course is among the top summer activities, as are hiking and horseback riding on the area trails.

The Arosa Switzerland hotels are relatively well equipped to handle the village's tourism needs, though since they can fill up fast during the peak winter season, making reservations well in advance is recommended. As is true at some of the other Switzerland ski resorts, the hotels in Arosa tend to require a stay of a week or more during the especially busy Christmas season, which is also worth noting. Both the Arosa Kulm Hotel and the Tschuggen Grand Hotel are among the most exclusive and luxurious hotels around, so you might start there if you're interested in the best of the best.

Staying at a hotel during your Arosa skiing or snowboarding vacation isn't the only lodging option. Many visitors look instead to book a chalet. A winter chalet in Arosa can make for a fine alternative to a hotel room on any ski vacation. Most have multiple bedrooms, fireplaces, and kitchens, and it's not uncommon for a hot tub and some other tempting amenities to be part of the mix. While the chalets tend to be expensive, the rates can be split multiple ways should you be traveling with a group of friends.
