Toggenburg

Toggenburg is the largest ski resort in eastern Switzerland, so you might make a break for its slopes when looking to enjoy some winter fun in the region. At the Toggenburg Ski Center, approximately 20 different kinds of lifts serve more than 30 miles of trails. The highest lift drops skiers and snowboarders off at an elevation of 7,420 feet above sea level. Approximately 30 miles of cross-country trails help to round out the skiing options at Toggenburg, and if you prefer, you can do some winter hiking along cleared trails or trek through the powder in a pair of showshoes.
Most of the trails at the Toggenburg Ski Center fall into the intermediate category. Complementing the abundant number of intermediate trails are a relatively limited number of beginner and advanced runs. As beginners start to get more comfortable, they can try some of the easier intermediate slopes, while advanced-level skiers and snowboarders might look to enjoy some off-piste action. Off-piste skiing and snowboarding involves getting off the marked trails and taking on runs that are shaped by Mother Nature. The vertical drop at the Toggenburg Ski Center is 3,835 feet, so you can make plenty of turns on the way down if you head to the top.
At the Toggenburg Ski Center in eastern Switzerland, visitors can look to do more than just glide down some slopes in regular fashion during the winter season. Special ski hiking tours that usually include making fresh tracks on untouched runs can be arranged at the snow sports school, and you might also be interested to know that you can rent a mountain bike and take to the powdery slopes if you please. Winter paragliding is just another option for things to do in Toggenburg during the winter, and if you prefer skiing or snowboarding, the fun terrain park is worth checking out. Snow tubing also offers its fair share of thrills and can especially be worth adding to the winter itinerary for families.
As is true of the other Swiss ski resorts, such as Zermatt and Verbier, Toggenburg isn't only a winter destination. Travelers come in the summer to hike the fantastic trails and swim in the spectacular mountain lakes, among other things. Toggenburg is very family friendly, and during the warmer months, activities such as visiting an area farm or tackling climbing courses can also be enjoyed. There are various children's programs to take advantage of, so the little ones are all but guaranteed to have a blast while in town.
A variety of Toggenburg holiday packages are available, so you might look to take advantage of them when trying to plan your fun-filled visit. These packages usually include a stay at one of the Toggenburg Ski Area hotels. The hotels in the area are well priced on the whole, and you can book half-board rates at most if you please. The half-board rates include both breakfast and dinner.
The Toggenburg Ski Area hotels are found in the local villages, such as the village of Wildhaus. The name Toggenburg is applied to the more general upper valley region. Among the more upscale hotels in the area is the Hotel Santis. It carries a government four star rating. Should you want to spend a little less, three star Toggenburg Ski Area hotels such as the Hotel Sternen and the Hotel Hirschen provide good rooms at a fair price.
