Nikolaev Ukraine

Nikolaev Ukraine is a large city in the southern part of the country. Also known by its Ukrainian name, Mykolaiv Ukraine, the city near the Black Sea is an industrial center and was a major shipbuilding center from the times of the Russian empire. Founded in 1789, there are also many buildings of historical interest, and those interested in Nikolaev travel will find a variety of tourist attractions here, including spacious parks, unique museums, and even Ukraine's largest zoo. Although Nikolaev has not been a prime tourist attraction in the past, as it was closed to the outside world during the Soviet years, it is increasingly popular as an interesting tourist destination. You can generally find a hotel in Nikolaev for a reasonable price—many of the hotels in the city center tend to be mid-size independent hotels that are basic but clean.

One of the most popular attractions in Nikolaev Ukraine is the Museum of Shipbuilding and Fleet. This classically styled historical building is Ukraine's only shipbuilding museum, and houses more than 8,000 artifacts related to the history of shipbuilding in the Black Sea region, especially in the port of Nikolaev. There are amazing models of some of the most famous ships in the world, including the Ikar, the first Soviet yacht to make it around the world. The museum receives upwards of 50,000 visitors a year, and guided tours are available.

Another worthwhile stop for any Nikolaev travel itinerary is the Museum of Arts, where you can see an extensive collection of painting and sculpture. The works gathered at the Museum come from Ukrainian and Russian artists through several historical periods. If you are interested in learning more about the history of Nikolaev, the Local History Museum, founded in 1913, is housed in a handsome red brick building and contains archaeological artifacts, ancient books, ethnographical collections, and more.

Nikolaev Ukraine also contains Ukraine's largest and best zoo, and for those who want to enjoy the outdoors during their Nikolaev travel, it can be a pleasant way to spend a day. The zoo becomes green and grassy in the summer months, and it is a great family destination where children can see kangaroos, elephants, bison, wolves, and other animals. A café on the grounds can provide refreshment and a place to rest.

To enjoy a walk in the city on a nice day, going down to the waterfront and walking on the quay is a pleasant activity with beautiful views of the waterfront. There is also a yacht club there if you are interested in boats.

When looking for a hotel in Nikolaev, consider how long you plan to stay. If you are going to stay longer than a couple days, renting an apartment can be much cheaper than staying in a hotel. Many apartments can be rented daily, making this a convenient option, though you may not have the service and assistance of a hotel stay. The Continent Hotel located in the center of town is a good three-star choice for a hotel in Nikolaev, as is the Ingul Hotel, another mid-size (about 40 rooms) hotel in the central downtown area.
