Hello Sofia,
Let me try to help you a little too for your coming to Brazil.
Rio de Janeiro will be good for sure as your start point. Just be sure to take care off your equipment there. It is always wise to have a contact in Rio even before you arrive.
For the North cost it will be nice for you to keep moving from Bahia to Rio Grande do Norte. It possible for you to rent a place for yourself. Prices can go hihg on that. Again it is wise to work on that before your arrival there. Do not look for a cheap place if you have many equipments.
About Manaus where I live now it is possible to get many different tours.
What type of documentary are you planning on doing?
There is a strong possibility that Manaus will be chosen as one of the cities in Brazil as a base for the
World Soccer Cup 2014. Many documentaries will be done on that, specially that it is a strong sport in England and Brazil.
I have a small lodge at the jungle here and a nice documentary to be made is about the pink delphins, or the life around those rivers.

The rough idea is to head up the north cost to Bhai in April and finally end up in Manaus in May. Then fly back to Rio to go back to London in beginning of June.
I am hoping to find one sunny buzzy place with friendly people, things to do and nice quiet beaches to stay for 3-4 weeks. Not sure exactly where but somewhere north east.
I have tried to find alternatives to hotels, home stays and hostels. Is there anywhere I could privately rent a bungalow or similar for 1 person by the beach?
Does this sound like a good plan in regards to avoiding rain, time-scale and security? Baring in mind I am female travelling on my own with lots of equipment.
If anyone is planning a similar trip and fancy meeting up on the way that would be cool to.
Thanks in advance. And maybe see you in Brazil:)
