Hi there,

To ensure you are prepared for the trip, you'd want ideally to get the car checked out by an expert. It is important specially to get the car fluids such as the oil, power steering, brake fluid, etc, checked out and also, the battery, belts and so on.

In case of an emergency, please equip the car with a tool kit, torch, flares, first aid kit and thick blankets. It may all see like a lot to carry but when you are traveling in zero degrees temperature you cannot take any chances. You may also require tire chains, so it is best you contact your mechanic for advise on this.

For what I understand, you plug the car to warm the engine so it is easier to be started. Some cars have a heater on the engine block which can be connected ('plugged') to be able to do this.

Hope this helps
