Hi,

I have been to Germany as an independent traveler, and I was in Germany in 2005 on a tour. I would definitely recommend it, because on a tour, you don't have to worry about logistics in terms of getting to each destination. I personally do not feel comfortable driving in a foreign country, and language barriers can sometimes make it a little more difficult to manage the trains. It is nice to have someone else take care of the details for you.
