St. Martin villas and hotels are scattered throughout the island so I would recommend renting a car while you are there as taxis are known to be a bit pricey there.
If you decide not to
rent a car, I would suggest staying near Orient Beach St. Martin where you can do most of your water activities such as snorkeling, sailing and
fishing.
