Yes, an extra day to the trip it's a probably a good idea since you'll be taking plenty of pictures and soaking in the natural scenery.
There are many
B&B's on the Aberdeen-Edinburgh route but you could probably stop off somewhere half way such as in Forfar.

- Newton Farmhouse B&B/Self Catering in Newton of Fothringham, Forfar. It is only 2 miles of the A90 and prices start from £52 for a double room.
- Glencoul House Justinhaugh, Forfar located also not far from the A90 and prices start at £48 for a double
