Question Amazon tours from Manaus

6 or 8 adults are planning a trip to the Amazon and were considering visiting the Mamiraua Reserve staying at the Uacari Lodge from Monday 1st October to Thursday 4th October 2007.

The intention was to fly from Manaus to Tefe with Rico Linhas Aereas via Tabatinga on the outward journey (3 hours 40 minutes!), direct from Tefé to Manuas on the way back, but the airport at Tefe airport has been closed for several months and there appears to be no date set for reopening. Even if Tefé airport were open, it would be an expensive journey, with a night in a hotel in Tefé on the way there and one in Manaus on the return, plus the R$600 fare.

So we are looking for an alternative jungle lodge/camp with similar facilities and programme (including perhaps, for example, good jungle trekking, wildlife, exploring igarapés in small canoes, fishing, the Anavilhanas archipelago, Lago Mamori, Manacapuru and visits to local communities). The base will probably be no further than 200km from Manaus and the trip will be for 3 or 4 nights.

Any recommendations?
