Sounds like a great trip. Heidelberg is beautiful. I've only been there once but I remember it fondly. I'm not sure what you mean by "arm and a leg" (it's different for everyone!) but I would recommend either the Elite Hotel Heidelberg (
website) or the Hotel Anlage (
website). The Elite Hotel is a little cheaper but both are fairly affordable and have received mostly favorable reviews.
